“There were contacts [with Mourinho], but not directly.”

Varane also took questions on who is the toughest striker that he has ever faced.

Lionel Messi and Didier Drogba were two of the names thrown at him, but he opted for United’s Romelu Lukaku.

“I feel more comfortable with fast players because I try to control the depth well, the back,” he added.

“For my qualities is what I prefer. When it is stronger I try to pass in front, that I can not play.

“Like Lukaku, for example. He is the strongest forward in the world.

“It is pure power. You have to play differently.
