Just bought a Galaxy S9? Bet you didn’t know Samsung smartphone could do THIS

Samsung have launched their latest additions to the Galaxy S family of smartphones – the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ offer a number of improvements to the S8 including a better placed fingerprint sensor, AR emojis and the S9 Plus’s dual camera.

Express.co.uk recently reviewed the Galaxy S9+ and said: “There’s no question that the S9+ is a contender for smartphone of the year.

“With its stunning curved design it still looks sublime and the display is without doubt one of the best you’ll find on phone.

“This new flagship also offers a slick experience with a processor that’s powerful enough to act as your home PC.

“The inclusion of that all-important dual-lens camera adds to the appeal especially with the bonus extras of Live Focus and Super Slo-mo modes.”

Besides the well publicised new features, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus have one great feature that’s been hidden away by Samsung.

On the rear of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus is the heart rate sensor.

For a Galaxy S handset, this is nothing new – however the way the S9 and S9 Plus takes advantage of this is.

The previously announced My BP Lab app, which utilises the Samsung Galaxy S9’s heart rate sensor, is available on the Google Play Store now.

And the app transforms the Galaxy S9’s heart rate sensor into a blood pressure monitor, BGR reported.

Those who have tested out the feature say the readings it provides are extremely accurate.

Samsung health VP Peter Koo previously said: “At Samsung, we have a firm commitment to the health and well-being of our users.

“That’s why we developed a revolutionary optical sensor in the Galaxy S9 and S9+.

“We are pleased to be partnering with UCSF to utilize this sensor and contribute to research that will provide our users with crucial and meaningful feedback about their health.”

At the moment, this feature is not incorporated into the main Samsung Health app.

But it’s likely that the goal is eventually to integrate the function into Samsung Health.

In other Samsung Galaxy S9 news, Express.co.uk revealed that its new flagship was available to buy from a rival company.

Microsoft shuttered the vast majority of its own smartphone business over the last few years, however, that doesn’t mean it won’t sell other vendors’ products inside its stores.

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are now available to buy directly from Microsoft.

Following the launch of the new entry in the Galaxy S range launches today, March 16th, customers are able to buy the flagship phone online and in brick-and-mortar Microsoft stores.

And unlike previous years, the Galaxy smartphone available from Microsoft is not a so-called “Microsoft Edition”.

These are preloaded with a range of popular Microsoft apps, including Cortana, Excel, Skype, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Word.
