Roger Federer vs Jeremy Chardy LIVE: Indian Wells updates, score and highlights

Roger Federer is the firm favourite to beat Jeremy Chardy after cruising through his first two matches.

Federer has already beaten Federico Delbonis and Filip Krajinovic so far this week.

And a match with Chardy should, on paper, be no problem for the Swiss master.

Federer needs to reach the semi-finals of Indian Wells to protect his world No 1 status from Rafael Nadal.

And you can follow this match LIVE with Express Sport below…

ROGER FEDERER VS JEREMY CHARDY LIVE

Chardy survives a scare in the seventh as he saves a break point to hold serve. Federer serving well in response. 4-4. It looks for all the money that this set is going to a tie-break.

Serve is really taking centre stage in the early rounds. 3-3.

And we continue on par for the next two as the match advances to 2-2 with relative ease.

Pretty straight forward opening two rounds for both players as they hold their serve. 1-1.

We are about to get underway here on Court 1. Federer won the toss and chose to receive.

Federer start time

We were expecting Federer and Chardy out at 9.15pm tonight but the match between Simona Halep and Petra Martic has stretched into a third set.

So, we wait. It may not be until 11pm by the time Federer and Chardy take to the court.

Roger Federer vs Jeremy Chardy head to head

Roger Federer boasts a W3 L1 record over Jeremy Chardy.

And the sole win for the Frenchman will give him hope of a shock upset here tonight.

Chardy beat Federer on clay at the Rome Masters back in 2014 – a 1-6 6-3 7-6(6) that saw him progress to the last-16 stage.

But has won their three other encounters, including two on hard courts (Paris and Brisbane in 2014).

Yet Chardy has, unlike many other players, pushed Federer to three sets during these matches.

And another three-setter could well be on the cards against today.
