PUBG Xbox One UPDATE: Good news for players following Microsoft announcement

Microsoft have confirmed some big news for fans of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

The headlines have been dominated by reports of how well its rival, Fortnite, has been doing.

However, a big PUBG Xbox One update has revealed that things aren’t looking too shabby on console either.

It has now been confirmed by Microsoft that PUBG has passed 5 million players on Xbox One.

That’s a pretty big number for a game still in early access, having launched less than three months ago.

“We just released the ninth optimisation patch on March 2, which improved vehicle feedback, sound effects, matchmaking and more, and last week we shared our spring development roadmap with details on what you should expect to see in the weeks to come, including the release of the 2nd map, Miramar,” a message from Microsoft reads.

To celebrate the milestone, Microsoft are rewarding the community with an exclusive free cosmetic item – the PUBG5 jacket.

The PUBG5 jacket will be rewarded to all players who own and have activated a character in the game on Xbox One as of March 22, 2018 at 07:01AM GMT.

So there’s no need to be scrambling around for the new item, which should be dropping into everyone’s inventory.

The next few months of development on console will include improvements to optimizations, new content additions, as well as refinements to the overall console experience.

This is part of the official Spring Xbox PUBG Roadmap, which will see the development team transition to a longer 2-3 week cycle in-between patches.

One of the big announcements for fans on consoles is that the new Miramar map is scheduled for release in early Spring.

This will be launching with an array of new updates, which are set to improve the game’s overall performance.

Bluehole Inc also want to release a version of test servers to the Xbox One, something that will no doubt please fans.

No official release date has been give for these changes, only that they will be arriving sometime in Spring.

It follows news that PUBG Mobile will be arriving soon in the UK.

In a bid to counter the rising popularity of Fortnite – not to mention the imminent release of Fortnite Mobile – PUBG Mobile has been released in Canada.

According to a new report on MCV, Android users can pick up PUBG Mobile from the Canadian Google Play store.

The report suggests that an iOS launch will follow shortly, although there’s still no word on a UK release date.

The mobile version was developed with Chinese company TenCent, and is said to be a faithful recreation of the battle royale blockbuster.

The biggest changes are the touch controls, which can be a problem for most mobile and tablet ports.
