Lewis Hamilton hits back at contract critics as new Mercedes deal still not agreed

The Brit is heading into his final year with Mercedes and he has constantly admitted that he wants to put pen to paper on an extension.

However, Hamilton says he is “super relaxed” over the situation and he will not sign a deal just because people want him to.

The delay has caused some Formula One fans to think that there may be a problem in the negotiations.

But the 33-year-old insists the contract will be agreed, but admits it is just a matter of time.

”I’m really super relaxed, I don’t feel pressure from the team, I don’t feel pressure within myself,” Hamilton said.

“I want to continue racing so I’ll have to do a contract at some stage but I’m definitely not going to do it when people want me to do it.

“I’ll do it when it’s ready.

”We started talking about it over the winter and I was like I’ll come back to it and then we picked it up again and I was like I’ll come back to it.

“It’s not really my priority at the moment.”

Hamilton is hoping to win his fifth Drivers’ Championship this season, which gets underway in Australia on March 25.
