Forget Fortnite Mobile on iOS, PUBG Mobile just launched in the West

PUBG Mobile has finally been released in the West, as Battlegrounds goes global.

In a bid to counter the rising popularity of Fortnite – not to mention the imminent release of Fortnite Mobile – PUBG Mobile has been released in Canada.

According to a new report on MCV, Android users can pick up PUBG Mobile from the Canadian Google Play store.

The report suggests that an iOS launch will follow shortly, although there’s still no word on a UK release date.

The mobile version was developed with Chinese company TenCent, and is said to be a faithful recreation of the battle royale blockbuster.

The biggest changes are the touch controls, which can be a problem for most mobile and tablet ports.

The news comes as Microsoft reveals some impressive new sales stats for PUBG.

According to Microsoft, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has shifted an impressive 5 million units on Xbox One.

To celebrate the big new sales milestone, Microsoft will release a free cosmetic item to the community.

That’s on top of a new gameplay video and infographic showcasing in-game achievements.

The character will be available to everybody who has activated a character by March 22.

“And finally, to celebrate our 5M player milestone, we’re rewarding the community with an exclusive free cosmetic item – the PUBG5 jacket,” a post reads.

“Wear it with pride and share your screenshots and gameplay streams wearing it so we can see it in action!

“The PUBG5 jacket will be rewarded to all players who own and have activated a character in the game on Xbox One as of March 22, 2018 at 07:01AM GMT.”
