Barcelona v Chelsea: Lethal Lionel Messi makes Thibaut Courtois look foolish

Barcelona headed into the second leg of their last-16 Champions League clash with Chelsea level after a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

However, it didn’t take long for the Spanish giants to assert their authority on the Blues.

Marcos Alonso failed to clear the ball from inside the box after Lionel Messi tried a one-two with Ousmane Dembele.

The ball dropped back to the Argentine superstar and he slipped a right-footed finish between the legs of shot-stopper Courtois and into the back of the net.

The goal, timed at two minutes, eight seconds, was Messi’s quickest ever Champions League strike, and it was a goal Courtois will certainly want to forget.

“Courtois has been s**t for years, he peaked at Atletico. Chelsea should sell him and get Nick Pope in,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

Another said: “Anyone who gives Messi any credit for that goal is deluded. Absolutely disgraceful goalkeeping. Worst piece of goalkeeping I’ve seen since that fella that ran into the net.”

And Chelsea’s day went from bad to worse when Dembele rifled home a powerful effort into the top corner 17 minutes later.

Messi skipped away from Cesar Azpilicueta in the build up before providing the assist for Dembele who duly fired the ball home from inside the box.
