Rafael Nadal: Doctor reveals injury rehabilitation plan

Nadal is once again on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of the hip problem which forced him to retire at the Australian Open in January.

The 31-year-old was forced to withdraw from this month’s Masters 1000 doubleheader in Indian Wells and Miami.

And he is aiming for a return in April at the Monte Carlo Masters, where he has won a record 10 times.

Injury has plagued Nadal over his career and his doctor Angel Ruiz Cotorro has told Spanish outlet El Espanol that the 16-time Grand Slam champion needs to do the bare minimum to ensure recovery.

“Now we’re going to take some time off,” Cotorro said.

“We have made a treatment and we will leave that area at rest, giving it time to put it back in its place.

“We will do the minimum of the minimum, nothing that affects that area.

“Sometimes, stopping always leads you to be able to do other things, but this time we will be even more strict.

“You have to be cautious and cautious. This type of injury can be hidden because the symptomatology immediately disappears.

“They are injuries that stop hurting very soon and you have to distrust them. The injury starts in the same area and is a somewhat special area.”
