Roger Federer: Sky Sports pundit makes huge claim over career of Swiss legend

Federer has won three of the last four Grand Slams he has entered.

The Swiss legend last month became the oldest man to be world No 1, five years after he last held the accolade.

He landed his men’s record 20th Slam in January by winning the Australian Open for a second successive year.

Croft says Federer is an inspiration for the younger generation on the tennis circuit.

“It’s a special moment for anyone to come and watch this man play tennis,” Croft said.

“But also just the way he’s playing his tennis.

“He just seems to be getting better and better, he’s improving year on year and as we said earlier, he’s won nine titles since coming back from that injury problem with the knee.

“He’s kind of laying down the gauntlet for the younger generation of how to play this game and how many options there are in ways of how to win a tennis point.”

Despite his recent dominance, Roger Federer could lose his world No 1 spot this week.

Old rival Rafael Nadal will overtake Federer at the top of the world rankings if the Swiss fails to reach the semi-final in Indian Wells.

That is despite Nadal currently being out injured with a hip problem.
