Givenchy dead: Hubert de Givenchy, founder of fashion House of Givenchy dies aged 91

The fashion trailblazer designed the iconic ‘little black dress’ for Audrey Hepburn in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s, as well as famous looks for the likes of Jackie Kennedy.

Announcing his death, Givenchy’s partner Philippe Venet, a former haute couture designer, said: “It is with huge sadness that we inform you that Hubert Taffin de Givenchy has died.”

He said the designer’s nephews and nieces, and their children shared his grief.

Givenchy’s ladylike, chic designs became world famous during a 40-year friendship with Audrey Hepburn.

They first met on the film set of Oscar-winning Sabrina, in 1953.

Speaking of his iconic dress for Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Hepburn said: “It was an enormous help to know that I looked the part.

“Then the rest wasn’t so tough anymore. Givenchy’s lovely simple clothes gave me the feeling of being whoever I played.”
