WWE News: John Cena gives HUGE update on rumoured WrestleMania match with Rey Mysterio

Reports suggested Cena requested a match with Mysterio at WrestleMania following The Master of the 619’s shock return at the Royal Rumble two months ago.

But the 16-time world champion insists he has never asked for an opponent ahead of the Showcase of the Immortals and will wrestle whoever WWE Chairman Vince McMahon chooses.

He told Sports Illustrated: “Rey Mysterio is great. I’ll say that, and that’s what I can say about Rey.

“I have never asked for a WrestleMania opponent.

“If you look at what I’ve done in my WrestleMania entirety, from coming out at Safeco Field in a sweat suit rapping to two cardboard cutouts, to working with established superstars to working with rookies, to being fortunate enough to use the platform to ask a beautiful young lady to marry me.

“A lot of our performers get frustrated and ask, ‘What can you do for me?’ I just ask, ‘What can I do for you?’ They tell me, and I do it to the best of my ability. Even if it’s no one.”

Cena has his sights set on the WWE title tonight at Fastlane in a Six-Pack Challenge against Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler and champion AJ Styles.

He declared that if he wins Smackdown’s exclusive belt he will defend it at WrestleMania against Styles and Royal Rumble winner Shinsuke Nakamura.

But The Champ is not scheduled to appear on any Smackdown shows until Mania and will therefore be unable to build that match if he doesn’t feature on the blue brand.

Cena claimed two weeks ago on RAW that his rumoured match with Undertaker won’t happen but reports suggest the two legends will indeed lock horns on April 8 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The ex-World Heavyweight Champion may start his feud with Taker tonight at Fastlane in Columbus, Ohio.
