TRUE BLUE: new season denim

Denim has come a long way from it’s origins as a hard-wearing fabric for manual workers.

These days, you’d be hard pressed to find a single wardrobe that doesn’t contain a pair of jeans.

Of course, it’s not just jeans these days – from jackets and jumpsuits to feminine dresses, there’s something to suit everyone.

And of course, there’s several different cuts and styles to suit every body shape, from fitted skinny styles to wide leg flares.

TRUE BLUE: swap denim jeans for a stylish dress this season

This season sees the return of dark denim.

In deep shades of navy and royal blue, the fabric is also reimagined in different shapes for a more tailored look.

This fit and flare midi dress from the Duchess of Cambridge’s favourite LK Bennett is a great example of the smart style.

Denim dresses are a stylish alternative to jeans for summer, as seen on many celebrities including Holly Willoughby when they want a smart yet casual outfit.

For low key cool, add Stan Smith trainers from Adidas and a striped breton tee for classic weekend style.

TRUE BLUE: straight leg jeans are the shape of the season

For denim traditionalists, there are a wealth of jeans brand that specialise solely in shapely denim styles.

If you have a style of jeans that you prefer, it may be worth swapping your high street style for a pair of specialist brand jeans.

Brands such as Joe’s Jeans, Frame, Paige and J Brand are pricier options but will wear for longer and are less likely to lose their shape over time.

This season’s key jean shape is the straight leg, replacing the much loved skinny. Joe’s raw edge hem style with turn up is the perfect casual style.

Model wears: Jacket, £55, Topshop. Jumper, £35, Joanie. Jeans, £224.95 Joe’s Jeans

TRUE BLUE: balance a curvy figure with flared jeans

If you have a curvier figure, flared jeans are for you.

The wider base will balance bigger busts and bottoms by creating an optical balance.

They are also great if you want to add extra height to a petite figure.

Simply go for a slightly longer pair and add heels in a height that means the hems skim the floor.

Model wears: Slogan knit, £69, Mint Velvet. Jeans, £315 Paige. Shoes £169, Swedish Hasbeens. Bandana, £20 Levi’s.

A midi length dress in a bold bright colour will compliment the true blue denim and add a fashion forward twist to your look.

Model wears: Dress, £15, Primark. Jeans, £230, J Brand at Net-a-Porter. Shoes, £19.99, Stradivarius. Jacket (on chair), £420, Frame at Harrods. Shorter necklace, £115, Missoma. Ring pendant necklace, £39, Ania Haie.
