Wonder Woman 2: Kristen Wiig CONFIRMED to join Gal Gadot – as THIS iconic character

The Bridesmaids actress is slated to play Cheetah, following recent reports that she was in “final negotiations”.

Director Patty Jenkins took to Twitter to confirm the news, saying: “So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true!

“So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites.

“And SO excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!! @GalGadot.”

The Cheetah pops up in the DC Comics as a major antagonist for Wonder Woman, and there have been four different incarnations: Priscilla Rich, Deborah Domaine, Barbara Ann Minerva and male usurper Sebastian Ballesteros.

It is thought that Wiig will be Minerva when the movie goes into production in two months’ time.

Fans have been reacting to the news with mostly positive tweets.

“Another amazing Wonder Woman movie coming before us,” said one person.

“We’re getting this rivalry in the DCEU! I’m so excited!!! #WonderWoman2,” said someone else.

A few others, however, were skeptical – given Wiig’s history of taking mostly comic roles.

“Ummmm I love Kristen Wiig a lot but I really don’t see her as Cheetah. I said the same about Heath Ledger as Joker and he shut me up, so what do I know lol,” wrote one person.

Gal Gadot will reprise her role as Diana Prince in the title role, but little else is known regarding casting news at this stage.

Wonder Woman 2 is out in late 2019.
