Royal wedding: Clues Mcvities will be making Harry and Meghan’s cake revealed

Prince Harry, 35, and Meghan Markle’s wedding will be one of the biggest events of this year, and fans all around the world are desperate to know the details.

The couple will marry on May 19 in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The dress, the hair, the guests and the menu, have all been the subject of much speculation – but what about another key component of a wedding day?

Who will make Meghan Markle, 36, and Harry’s wedding cake?

There are various clues that the traditional wedding dessert will be made by McVities.

British brand McVities, founded in Edinburgh, Scotland, is known by most non-royal Britons for their digestive biscuits. However, they make other sweet treats.

The brand, which was founded in 1830, has strong ties to the Royal Family.

In fact, in 1893 McVitie & Price (as the company was once known) was given the royal seal of approval when they baked the future Queen Mary and King George V’s wedding cake – their first royal commission.

In 1947 the brand made Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip’s wedding cake, which stood at over eight feet.

More recently McVitie’s created Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding cake, which was based on the Prince’s childhood favourite, the chocolate digestive.

It was made from 1,700 McVitie’s Rich tea biscuits and 37lb of chocolate.

Barry Colenso, master chocolatier at McVities who made Kate and William’s cake, told Hello! in 2015: “The McVitie’s team and I worked 24/7 for 29 straight days to make sure we made something spectacular, and that met Prince William and Kate’s brief.”

Barry has also made the Queen Mother’s 85th birthday cake.

As if these royal cakes weren’t reference enough for Harry and Meghan, the actress also has a personal tie to one of the heirs of the confectionary company.

Ex-Made In Chelsea star 29-year-old Jamie Laing is an heir to the British company. The reality TV star is former cast members with a personal friend of Meghan Markle, Millie Mackintosh.

Is it thought that Millie may well be one of Meghan Markle’s bridesmaids

Meghan could ask her friend to put a word in with her friend to get her wedding cake.
