Donald Trump will only meet North Korea‘s despotic leader Kim Jong-un if the country “take concrete steps and concrete actions”, his spokeswoman said this evening.
White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said at a news briefing this evening: “The president will not have the meeting without seeing concrete steps and concrete actions take place by North Korea, so the president will actually be getting something.
“The president is hopeful that we can make some continued progress. What we know is that the maximum pressure campaign has clearly been effective.”
Yesterday South Korea announced Mr Trump had accepted an invitation from Kim for an historic face-to-face meeting.
However the prospect of such a meeting has diminished following this evening’s comments.
