Anti-fascists BOMB far-right party headquarters as tensions rise after Italy election

The neo-fascist party’s office in Trento, was attacked yesterday, with a homemade bomb thrown through the front window.

It comes amid rising tensions following the Italian election earlier this month, with the CasaPound party claiming antifascists have moved beyond debate to violence.

The attackers scrawled graffiti on the wall of the party office which read: “The only useful vote is an anti-fascist vote.”

CasaPound, who received 1.44 per cent of the vote in this month’s Italy election after running on an anti-migrant platform, said nobody was hurt in the bombing.

Investigators said the homemade device was “rudimentary” and created using several firecrackers.

They said the explosion had blown through the shutter of the party office entrance, causing a glass door to break.

The regional head of the party said it was an attack by people who “no longer propose anything and are invaluable of confrontation”.

Filippo Castaldini said: “It comes at the end of an election campaign that has seen a hysterical antifascist manifest itself with minimum argument but increasing violence.

“This is a gesture which they hope will stop our activities but it will not achieve the desired result.

“We will not abandon a single field of battle or one Italian. We will not go back one step.

“Our strength comes from all those citizens who have recognised in us and in our movement the possibility of redemption for our nation. Our wall will not yield.”

And earlier this week a CasaPound activist was attacked with clubs while with his wife in the Tuscan city of Livorno.

A statement from the party said four people “carrying clubs” had attacked the man before destroying the windows of his car, “inside which was his pregnant finance”.
