Star Wars 9: Snoke backstory confirmed – will it be revealed in new movie?

Warning: spoilers for The Last Jedi ahead.

There was much discussion amongst fans over the origins of the powerful villain – who met a surprisingly early sticky end in Episode 8 of the saga.

Now, ahead of the release of the film on DVD and Blu-ray, Serkis has confirmed that Snoke does have a finalised history – but he can’t divulge it in case it is revealed on screen in the future.

Whether this means he will make some kind of appearance in Episode 9 remains to be seen.

“We wanted him to have a great deal of mystery, but we did … J.J. [Abrams] and I discussed it, and Rian [Johnson] and I did discuss backstories to him, where he came from,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

“I’ve been asked to not shed anything, should we want to bring him back in any way whether [in a] prequel or whatever. I think there’s something cool about that.

“It still does remain a mystery for people. I know that some people find it incredibly frustrating, but I think it allows for further exploration and layering at a further point.”

Asked specifically if he anticipates a Snoke comeback, he replied: “Yeah, I would love to think that there is room for him to come back.

“I think anything’s possible in a Star Wars movie. I’d be all up for it.

“I think there’s a lot more to be had from the character for sure, but I’m not in discussions with anybody at all about it.”

Star Wars Episode 9 goes into production this summer, ahead of a release in 2019.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out on DVD and Blu-ray on April 9.
