Star Wars 9 news: Kylo Ren ‘WILL be redeemed’ – thanks to THIS character?

Warning: spoilers for Episode 8: The Last Jedi ahead.

The Junior Novelisation of Episode 8 is out now, and appears to allude to the possibility that it will be Rey who can yet stop Kylo’s evil streak.

It appeared at the end of the movie that his window for potential redemption had closed, but it’s things look much more optimistic in this book.

Extracts shared on Twitter highlight the moment in which Luke projects himself onto Crait and has a brief moment with sister Leia (Carrie Fisher).

It notes that Leia noticed “glint” in Luke’s eye, one that reminded her of his younger self – who “had found a way to redeem a man she never could – their father. If Luke couldn’t save Ben, maybe he believed someone else could.”

On Rey, it later adds: “Could the girl from Jakku somehow help them all – even Ben?”

Earlier, another passage elsewhere in the book – with Rey’s perspective – had hinted: “Kylo Ren wasn’t lost to them. Under his dark shell flickered a spark of light. He could be redeemed.”

“Their eyes met, and Rey saw in Kylo Ren the good person he wanted to be,” reads a later line.

Of course the plot of Episode 9, which is being filmed from this summer, is being kept under lock and key.

It’ll be just under two years before we get the trilogy finale – although Solo: A Star Wars Story, about Han Solo, is out this summer.

Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi, meanwhile, is out on DVD and Blu-ray next month.
