Lionel Messi ‘does not want’ Barcelona to complete transfer deal: Real Madrid plot hijack

Alaba has forged a reputation as one of European football’s most promising defenders and his versatility has attracted plenty of admirers.

Barcelona are said to be interested in securing his services as they consider signing a long-term replacement for Jordi Alba.

Real, likewise, are keen on the full-back as they plot a summer overhaul following a hugely disappointing campaign.

The latest reports from Spain suggest Barcelona may not sign Alaba though due to Messi, paving the way for Real to swoop.

According to Don Balon, Nou Camp president Josep Maria Bartomeu has personally identified Alaba as a target.

But Messi is said to be opposed to the deal going through because he does not want anyone to take Alba’s starting spot.

Real president Florentino Perez is apparently eager to get Alaba on-board as well.

And Don Balon indicate he could launch a hijack to prise the Austrian away from Bayern if Barcelona do not act.

Real left-back Marcelo will be in danger of being sold if Real manage to snare Alaba.

And he’s unlikely to be the only Bernabeu first-teamer on the way out, with Harry Kane lined up to replace Karim Benzema.

Bartomeu and Perez have gone head-to-head for players in the past, including Dani Ceballos last summer.

And losing Alaba to Real would come as a bitter blow to the Barcelona chief.
