GTA 5 Online to be ‘followed up with GTA 6 in 2022 and Rockstar returning to Vice City’

GTA 6 could be set in Vice City and may have a 2022 release date, which would indicate it’s being developed for the PS5 and the next Xbox.

Latest rumours have said Rockstar Games’ follow-up to GTA 5 and GTA 5 Online will be the first game in the series to have a female lead character.

YouTube channel The Know said an “inside source” had revealed the big GTA 6 news, VG247 reported.

They said GTA 6 will be set in or around Miami or Rockstar’s version of south Florida, known as Vice City.

Vice City was the setting of two GTA games – GTA Vice City and GTA Vice City Stories, released in 2002 and 2006 respectively on the PlayStation 2.

This would be in keeping with a GTA trend, as the past two main entries in the series have all returned to the setting of PS2 era Grand Theft Auto games.

GTA 4 was set in Liberty City, the setting of Grand Theft Auto 3.

While GTA 5 and GTA 5 Online returned to Los Santos and San Andreas, which featured in 2004’s Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

It’s unclear at the moment whether GTA 6 will have one playable character, or like GTA 5 let players take control of more than one protagonist.

The Know also claimed that GTA 6 is known internally at Rockstar Games as Project Americas.

It’s also not known whether Vice City characters, such as Tommy Vercetti, will appear in GTA 6 and whether it will be set in the 80s like the PS2 games.

As with all rumours, the GTA 6 claims should be taken with a pinch of salt.

But The Know did in the past correctly reveal details of Dark Souls 3 before its official confirmation.

So they do have form in their leaks being accurate.

The alleged GTA 6 release date would also seem to indicate that it’s being developed for the PS5 and the next Xbox.

Analysts are predicting that the PS5 could release as early as 2019, but experts have put 2020 as the more likely launch window.

This would mean GTA 6 could release a few years into the PS5 and next Xbox’s life cycle.

As fans wait for GTA 6, Rockstar Games have another huge game in the pipeline.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to release on October 26 2018 on PS4 and Xbox One after a few launch delays.

It’s rumoured to feature its own battle royale mode, and if RDR2 is anywhere near as popular as GTA 5 Online, then it could give Fortnite and PUBG stiff competition.

Other online game modes are said to include Revive and Survive and Money Grab.

Revive and Survive gives players a limited time to revive teammates, while Money Grab sees two teams fight over a bag of money in a central location.

The recent alleged leak also sheds some light on the single-player mode, including the identity of the main characters.

This includes lead protagonist Arthur Morgan and gang leader Dutch Van Der Linde.

Players will be able to visit cities like Armadillo and Ridgewood, which will be accessible via trains.

The game will reportedly be playable in first person, while random missions in the style of GTA 5’s Strangers and Freaks will also be playable.

Fans can also expect fishing and crafting to make an appearance, as well as gambling, gold mining and much more.
