Russian ultra thug sets FIRE to stadium during match as violence rages before World Cup

Flames engulfed seats sending fans fleeing during the match between Lokomotiv Moscow and Spartak Moscow.

In the video the fire can be seen roaring as it takes up several rows in the stands of the Cherkizovo stadium in the Russian capital Moscow.

Fans stand back as the blaze continues through the snow, until firefighters come and seem to put the fire out.

Local media reported the fire had been started by a fan who had been trying to set off a firework.

Despite being prohibited, fireworks are a common feature at Russian football matches.

The incident will concern international football fans who are making their way to Russia for the 2018 Fifa World Cup in June.

Already fans are being warned about violent hooligans dubbed Russian Ultras, with brazen thugs even saying they want to target “soft English”.

In December one ultra told the Daily Star: “We will join with other Russians to fight. We are not soft English. We fight hard and do not run. We are being trained by professional fighters – boxers, mixed martial arts guys.

“But we still want the English to come and see if they can take us. For sure, there will be violence.

“England are our number one target but we are not frightened of anyone – French, Polish, Germans, we will take them all on and win.”

And during Euro 2016 England fans were deliberately targeted by Russian hooligans in Marseille, France.

Speaking of the latest incident, a spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) said in a statement: “During the game at Cherkizovo stadium a fan set a firework alight. A team of firemen put out the flames with fire extinguishers.”

It is unclear if the fan who set the firework alight has been identified or arrested by the authorities.

The match ended in a 0-0 draw between the two Moscow sides.

Lokomotiv sit at the top of the Russian Premier League, eight points ahead of Spartak who occupy third place.
