UK Open darts 2018: Why is there no crowd at PDC tournament?

Darts fans were looking forward to three days of quality action, lively atmosphere and plenty of camaraderie as the UK Open rolled into Somerset.

Michael van Gerwen, Rob Cross and Peter Wright have all been on show over the weekend.

And tonight’s semi final sees Gary Anderson, David Pallett, Corey Cadby and Robert Owen going for glory.

But the tough weather conditions that have gripped the UK in recent days dealt a major blow to darts fans.

Butlins Minehead decided to close the venue to supporters, despite allowing the tournament to go ahead.

The biggest stars in the game have had the unusual experience of playing in front of rows and rows of empty seats.

Fans can still tune into the action, but all via television.

ITV have been broadcasting the tournament from Friday through to Monday on ITV4 and online via the ITV hub.

Express Sport also has all the results from each clash on site.

Earlier this week, Butlins released this statement: “Due to the unprecedented extreme weather conditions, we have regretfully decided to not allow guests to attend this weekend’s PDC Coral UK Open at our resort in Minehead, Somerset, for safety reasons – however, the tournament will take place behind closed doors and be broadcast on ITV4 as scheduled.

“We have also decided to cancel our 90’s Reloaded weekend at our resort in Skegness, Lincolnshire, for the same safety reasons.

“Guests already on our resort can be assured that their accommodation will be available to them until it is safe to travel home.”
