Lewis Hamilton makes surprise Mercedes admission ahead of new F1 season

Hamilton spent last week in Barcelona and adverse weather conditions meant he wasn’t able to get as many practice laps under his belt as he would have hoped for.

The four-time world champion also wasn’t too impressed about the fact the track at the Circuit de Catalunya was replaced, labelling it a “waste of money”.

Hamilton will be racing for the sixth season with Mercedes.

While he is pleased with the W09 model, he admits the pressure comes from himself rather than from his own team.

When asked about the expectations he faces to perform in the new car, Hamilton told The Voice: “To be honest, the pressure I put on myself has always been the most.

“But there’s added pressure.

“You’re nervous about damaging the car that all these people have worked so hard on – but I know that they don’t think about that.

“They know that I am going to give it everything and that’s what they want to see.

“I know what potential I have in me and I just want to make sure I utilise that and bring the out the maximum potential of the great machine the team has built.”

The new F1 season gets underway on March 25 with the Australian Grand Prix.
