BBC’s Jeremy Vine to perform as drummer with rap-rock band Y.O.U.N.G

Manchester-based Y.O.U.N.G, a band blending alt-pop, rap and rock, are currently on their first UK headline tour but they have already developed a fervent fanbase across Europe.

Jeremy will join them on the stage of the London’s Camden Assembly to play the drums to Y.O.U.N.G’s cover of will.i.am’s hip-hop song I Got It From My Mamma.

This is not the BBC broadcaster’s first experience on stage.

As a teenager, Jeremy was in a number of bands – Wait and See, The Sharp Suits, Two Can Talk and The Flared Generation – with his friends and brother, the comedian Tim Vine.

Although they never made it musically, The Flared Generation came to the attention of the media for their habit of wearing flared trousers, with pop magazine Smash Hits saying they were “the most unfashionable punk band in the country.”

Speaking about performing as guest drummer with Y.O.U.N.G, Jeremy, who saw the group performing live last year, said: “When I first saw these guys perform I was blown away.

“It was an acoustic set in a living room and you could feel the musical power and the sheer exuberance.

“To say they are a little better than the Flared Generation is the understatement of 2018!”

On the opportunity to perform with the band he said: “For me to be asked to drum with them is pretty special.

“At last I can do that thing where you spin your drumstick around your head, and people will actually be watching.

“I believe Y.O.U.N.G will go far and I’ll be able to look back and say I was on stage with them in the early days.

“That, at least, has to make my kids think I’m a bit of a cool dad!”

Y.O.U.N.G frontman Chez Davis said: “We couldn’t believe it when Jeremy said he was going to perform with us.

“It will be an epic night and one that will live long in the memory.

“This is an amazing time for us.

“We’re working hard and are determined this is just the start of something very exciting.”

You can see Jeremy Vine drumming with Y.O.U.N.G at Camden Assembly this Sunday March 4.
