Daniel Craig at 50: Why the James Bond star is NOT too old to still play 007

The incumbent 007 has just turned half a century and will be shooting his fifth James Bond movie later this year.

However Craig presented an award at the BAFTAs a couple of weeks ago and was scathed on social media for looking older and “plastic.”

Obviously playing the famous MI6 agent is a physical challenge for any actor, so does he still have what it takes? We certainly think so.

The first thing to point out is at 50-years-old Craig is by no means the oldest actor to portray Bond.

Sir Sean Connery returned to the role in the unofficial Never Say Never again in 1983, aged 53 – but even he isn’t the oldest.

David Niven portrayed a retired Bond in 1967 spoof Casino Royale at 57, while Sir Roger Moore was the same age in his seventh 007 outing, 1985’s A View To A Kill.

Then if we take into account that people look and feel younger than previous generations did, shows that Craig’s age isn’t a problem.

Even so, each Bond actor has to hand the baton on at some point, and Craig has already said that Bond 25 will be his final 007 outing.

Back in 2009 Craig said: “If people still want to see these movies I’ll keep doing them for as long as it takes, or until my knees go, whichever happens quicker!”

James Bond 25 will be released in November 2019.
