Weather forecast: How likely is snow due to Siberian freeze? Odds on temperatures of -10C

Snow is set to hit the UK tonight, according to the Met Office weather forecast.

The Siberian freeze, which is also being called “Beast from the East”, is set to hit the UK tonight and last until early March.

Britons are best advised to batten down the hatches and prepare for a week of bitterly cold weather thanks to the freezing winds from Russia.

How likely is it that temperatures will fall to lower than -10C?

Betting has been suspended on this being the coldest February on record by Ladbrokes.

The bookies now make it just an even-money shot that the UK sees temperatures of -10C or lower this week.

Meanwhile, odds of the mercury dropping to -15C over the coming days have been trimmed for the second time this weekend from 5/2 to just 9/4.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “The Big Freeze is showing no signs of budging and we reckon this month looks set to be a record breaker.”

What is the Siberian freeze

These freezing winds are coming in from the Siberia, a vast and bitterly cold area in Russia.

In fact, exile to Siberia was a punishment created by the Tsar in Russia, that could be applied by law, which would have made for a punishing existent – if you survived.

The winds mean it could well feel as cold at -15C in Britain next week.

Tonight’s show showers were initially predicted for Monday afternoon, but have been brought forwards as the winds descend upon the country.
