Tracey Thorn album review: Album fizzing with effervescent pop

The brilliant Air dismisses her own square-peg teenage image – “too tall, all wrong/Deep voice, too strong” – with a couldn’t-care-less joyfulness.

Guitar tells the story of her earliest days trying to learn guitar with future husband and Everything But The Girl partner Ben Watt, while fancying the pants off him.

“The song was Teenager In Love/You couldn’t make it up”.

Elsewhere there is almost unexpected poignancy on Smoke, a love letter to London and Go, about the pain of parting with adolescent children: “This is what it was all for/To wave you out the door…”

A brilliant record.
