Pokemon Go news: Community Day the best event so far from Niantic?

While there were a few hitches during it going live, the recent Pokemon Go Community Day event went down very well with fans.

It appears offering out a Pokemon like Dratini, along with a good chance of catching a shiny variant, made for an excellent couple of hours work.

Trainers have been talking about their experiences of the Community Day, which also offered up increased Stardust and a three-hour lure period.

“I couldn’t believe how good it was,” one user posted online.

“I had really low expectations, but I only played the event for 2 hours, and didn’t amass a lot of pinap and ultra balls prior and I still managed to get enough candy for 4 Dragonite.”

Other Trainers have backed it as one of the best events Niantic have ever held, and are hoping for more of the same in a month’s time.

There were some regions that experienced server issues during the event, leading Niantic to having to extend the official runtime.

“We’re currently investigating service issues which are impacting gameplay in a variety of ways. We’ll be extending Pokemon Go Community Day hours throughout the Asia-Pacific region to accommodate. Please stay tuned for more details.”

But even though there were some disruptions for fans in certain regions, those affected still appear to have got plenty from the day.

“I was terrified the day was going to be a write off,” another Pokemon Go player explains.

“Not only was error 29 nearly burnt into my phone screen but for some reason my gotcha just refused to reconnect. Did the usual unpair/re pair I do when it rarely stuffs up but thanks to login errors I wasted about half an hour on my gotcha alone.

“I burn through stardust regularly and only ended up with half of my goal thanks to ignoring all the junk that the gotcha would normally handle.”

“To put it in perspective in my first 3 hours I caught roughly 45 dratini and 90 in the last 3 hours… And I only played 2/3 of the second half due to dratini fatigue. We earned our 6 hour event.”

Luckily for fans, each month in 2018 will see one Community Day held by Niantic, who will offer rewards and some kind of special Pokemon bonus.

February included a lot of Dratinis, as well as the special Shiny variant popping up.

Catching a shiny Dratini essentially meant players were also able to evolve them, leaving them with a Shiny Dragonite.

Niantic haven’t confirmed what their next Pokemon Go Community Day will be like, but hopes are high for another success like this weekend’s.

Niantic has also announced Legendary Week, which starts today and runs until March 5.

As part of Legendary Week, Niantic will bring back Groudon and Kyogre as Raid bosses. That’s on top of current Legendary Raid boss Rayquaza.

“Niantic and The Pokemon Company have announced that Pokemon GO Legendary Week will begin today and run through March 5, bringing Groudon and Kyogre back to Raid Battles alongside Rayquaza in Raid Battles around the world,” reads a Niantic post.

“Pokemon GO Legendary Week also includes a global challenge where if Trainers defeat Rayquaza more than both Kyogre and Groudon, they’ll receive special rewards.”

If Rayquaza is defeated more than his Legendary counterparts, then Wind-type Pokemon will be more likely to hatch from eggs between March 5 and March 16.

“If not, Pokemon that prefer sunny or rainy weather (like Trapinch or Lotad) are more likely to hatch,” Niantic adds.
