All living US presidents expected to attend funeral of Billy Graham

But it was unclear if a member of the Royal Family would attend the service in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Friday.

Donald Trump and predecessors George W Bush, George HW Bush, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama will pay their respects to world-renowned evangelist Dr Graham, who died last Wednesday aged 99.

A spokesman for the Queen, who was close friends with Dr Graham and his wife Ruth, would not comment on any plans for a royal to attend the funeral.

Dr Graham revealed how he had preached to the Royal Family during visits to Sandringham and Windsor and on one occasion, at Sandringham in 1984, mistook the Queen for a housekeeper.

“Ruth and I walked past a woman wearing an old raincoat, Wellingtons and a scarf. She was bent over fixing some food for the dogs,” he recalled.

“We thought she was one of the housekeepers but when she straightened up, we saw it was the Queen.”

Dr Graham will be buried in a plywood coffin made by local prison inmates and laid to rest next to Ruth, who died in 2007.
