Samsung Galaxy S9 leak reveals speed improvements over Galaxy S8, here’s what we know

The has surfaced on Geekbench – days before it is due to be announced by Samsung.

And if the score is genuine, it’s certainly nothing to be scoffed at.

Spotted by Dutch technology blog Telefoon Abonnement, the Galaxy S9+ purportedly scored 3773 in the single-core test, and 9024 in the multi-core.

Geekbench scores are designed to help users quickly compare performance across different computers and different platforms without getting bogged down in details of specs.

That puts the Galaxy S9+ well above the standard Galaxy S9, which scored 3648 in its single-core test and 8894 in the multi-core on, according to the official Geekbench table.

For comparison, Galaxy S8 – which shipped with an Exynos 8895 chipset inside – managed to score 1954 in single-core performance and 6428 for multi-core.

The South Korean company’s last flagship smartphone, Galaxy Note 8, scored 1960 in single-core and 6473 in multi-core.

It’s worth noting that, while undoubtedly useful when it comes to comparing smartphone models with one another, Geekbench scores are not always indicative of real-world performance.

On the surface, the benchmark results listed on Geekbench show that Galaxy S9+ will be much faster than the Galaxy S9.

However, until the smartphones are announced, it’s worth taking these listings with a healthy pinch of salt.

Aside from the Galaxy S9+ score, the listing on Geekbench also appears to confirm the handset will ship with 6GB of RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo.

That tallies with the latest whispers about the flagship smartphone.

Samsung will take the wraps off its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ during its latest Galaxy Unpacked keynote on Sunday evening.

The South Korean company first mailed-out invites for the exclusive launch event in January.

“The Camera. Reimagined,” the invitation cryptically teases, complete with a large number 9.

Samsung adds: “If a picture is worth a thousand words, the latest member of the Galaxy family has a lot to say.

“On February 25, Samsung Electronics will showcase the next generation of Galaxy devices that reimagines the camera and redefines the way you share your moments.”

Express.co.uk will have all the details of the new handsets as soon as it’s announced at Mobile World Congress.

Stay tuned.
