Man Utd news: Juventus close to agreeing summer transfer for Matteo Darmian

Matteo Darmian has fallen out of favour at Manchester United and has been tipped to leave the club in the summer.

The 28-year-old has made just 12 appearances in all competitions this term and has not featured at all in the Premier League since December.

However, he is set to be handed a lifeline by Serie A champions Juventus, according to reports in Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

It is said the Turin-based club have been chasing Darmian for some time and are closing in on a deal.

Juve have reportedly already got the ball rolling and hope to bring him in early doors in the summer amid interest from a host of rival clubs.

Inter Milan, Roma and Napoli are all keen to sign Darmian and are said to have had offers rejected by United in January.

Corriere dello Sport suggest Darmian is desperate to join the Serie A giants and has decided not to rock the boat at Old Trafford over his lack of game time to ensure a move.

And Juve want to get a deal over the line for the versatile full-back, especially with the futures of Alex Sandro and Kwadwo Asamoah uncertain.

Speaking last month about Darmian’s future, his agent Tullio Tinti revealed a number of Italian clubs had been in contact.

“I haven’t had any calls from Roma for the player but there has been contact with other Serie A teams,” he said.

“For the moment the lad isn’t for sale.”

Darmian has made just 80 appearances for in three years and is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2019.
