Liverpool news: Michael Owen reveals surprise stat heading into West Ham clash

The Reds return to Premier League action having had a 10-day break since their 5-0 thrashing of Porto in their Champions League last-16 first leg.

It gave Jurgen Klopp the opportunity to whisk his players away on a warm-weather training trip to Marbella and plenty of time to focus their attention on face the Hammers.

With just 11 games left in the season, Liverpool can ill-afford any slip-ups if they hope to finish inside the top four.

Just four points separate Manchester United in second and Tottenham in fifth with Liverpool and Chelsea sandwiched in between.

West Ham have proven somewhat of a bogey team for the Reds at Anfield in recent years with the Merseyside outfit without a win at home against the east London club in the league since January 2015.

And David Moyes’ side have lost just one of their last eight Premier League matches so far this campaign.

However, the Scottish coach has a terrible record playing at Anfield and Owen believes that will continue tomorrow.

“West Ham went 45 games without a win at Liverpool before August 2015 but they are unbeaten in their last three ahead of the Hammers’ visit to Anfield,” Owen told BetVictor.

“That said the Reds have scored four in their last two PL games against the Irons and it should be noted that West Ham boss David Moyes is without a win in 14 previous visits to Anfield as a manager with Everton, Manchester United and Sunderland. I cannot see past a home win.”

Liverpool’s only real hope of winning silverware this season remains a long-shot in the Champions League but have given themselves a fantastic boost heading into the second leg against Porto.
