Already the LP has had five weeks at No1 in the UK, and has reportedly even outsold Taylor Swift’s most recent collection, Reputation.
For a film that began its box office run with modest returns and lukewarm reviews, it’s a testament to word-of-mouth that it has managed to find such a strong footing.
Now, bookies have dramatically cut the odds of the soundtrack ending 2018 as the year’s biggest-selling record.
“The Greatest Showman On Earth has had the last laugh, despite receiving a lukewarm reception from the critics,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
“It is a box-office hit that could end up with an Oscar and the biggest selling album of the year.”
They currently list odds of 6/5 that the album will close 2018 as the country’s best-seller.
Furthermore, Keala Settle’s This Is Me – the most popular track from the film – has odds of 6/4 to win the Oscar for Best Original Song.
That makes it second-favourite overall, with Coco’s Remember Me (4/7) the current odds-on one-to-beat.
Other competition includes Mighty River from Mudbound (12/1), Mystery of Love from Call Me By Your Name (16/1) and Stand Up For Something from Marshall (20/1).
The Greatest Showman’s music has already outsold La La Land’s official album from this time last year.
It’s topped the US Billboard cart as well, selling more than half a million copies to date.
The Greatest Showman is out now.
