Barcelona news: Lionel Messi gives go-ahead to transfer deal, Nou Camp chiefs want £31m

Gomes came on as a late substitute as Ernesto Valverde’s side secured a draw in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 showdown with Chelsea last night.

And that took him to 70 appearances for Barcelona since moving to the Nou Camp from La Liga rivals Valencia in the summer of 2016.

But his Gomes has endured plenty of flak during his stint in Catalunya, amid claims he doesn’t suit Barca’s style of play.

And the latest reports from Spain suggest Messi has learned a queue of Serie A clubs are lining up to sign his team-mate.

According to transfer speculation specialists Don Balon, AC Milan and Inter Milan are among the sides interested in Gomes.

And they’re joined in their admiration of the 24-year-old by Napoli and Roma.

Messi has apparently given the go-ahead for Barcelona to get rid of Gomes when the transfer window opens in the summer.

However, Nou Camp chiefs are likely to have to reduce their valuation of the player they beat Real Madrid to 18 months ago.

Barcelona want to recoup the fee of around £31m (€35m) that they handed to Valencia for Gomes.

But the four Italian clubs are unwilling to match that figure as they target the Grijo-born ace.

Barcelona return to La Liga action on Saturday when they play host to Gerona.

And they’ll be hoping to get the win that can extend their lead over second-placed Atletico Madrid to 10 points.
