While the PS4 games list for 2018 is currently pretty strong, fans would never say no to a few more exclusives.
And it appears that’s exactly what they’ll be getting later this year.
Following in the footsteps of the successful Crash Bandicoot trilogy reboot, Activision are in the middle of a second project.
According to Kotaku, a new Spyro The Dragon collection of games will be launching on the PS4 in 2018.
This new remastered trilogy will apparently follow the same recipe used for Crash Bandicoot N. Sane, using new assets, as well as modernising other major parts of the game.
“The trilogy remaster will, much like the highly successful Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, feature new assets, lighting, animations and cinematics, as well as a remastered soundtrack,” Kotaku reveals.
“It will also feature updates to the save feature, much like occurred in the Crash remaster (which replaced the original games’ password feature with something much more user friendly).
“The remaster will include Spyro the Dragon, Ripto’s Rage!, and Year of the Dragon, and there is the tantalising promise of some content cut from the original releases of those games.”
It sounds like a list of things fans of the original franchise have been looking to see on the PS4.
The new Spyro project will reportedly be announced in March 2018 and will then be released in September.
It sounds like the Spyro trilogy will be available solely on the PS4 and PS4 Pro for a full year, before being ported over to other platforms in 2019.
This would fit in with the recent reports that Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy is heading to the Nintendo Switch this year.
A European licensing manual has been published which brings with it big news for Crash Bandicoot fans.
It says a new entry in the Crash Bandicoot franchise is in development and is due for a 2019 release.
It also says a port of the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy is in the works for the Nintendo Switch and PCs, and is due sometime this year.
E3 2018 seems like a good place to expect a big announcement on the subject, although Activision may choose to reveal more ahead of the June expo.
