The website, aptly named “Whereisroadster.com” provides a simulation of the Tesla’s orbit around the sun and can currently be tracked until November 13, 2020.
The creator of the tracking site, Ben Pearson, was keen to explain that he has been passionate about space since he was young.
He said: “I read every book in my little library that I could about space and space exploration stuff.
“Elon Musk is a visionary man, incredibly far forward, but there’s a reality distortion field when it comes to him.
“I like that he’s willing to take risks and do cool stuff that people just keep saying it’s not possible and he figures out a way to make it possible.”
The launch of the Falcon Heavy rocket provided viewers with the unique and spectacular photos of Mr Musk’s red roadster floating in space with a dummy in the drivers seat passing Earth.
After the SpaceX launch stream had concluded, many fans of the project were left wondering where the Tesla was positioned in space.
Mr Pearson has attempted to answer that question.
He used calculations to estimate where the car would be, however he noticed that his calculations were different from the ones that Elon Musk had given.
The difference in calculations emerged after the Tesla overshot its trajectory – Mr Musk had claimed that the car could travel as far as the asteroid belt, however this was not the case.
Mr Pearson explained that the Roadster will closely pass Earth in 2091 and it could make for a perfect time for “space enthusiasts” to retrieve it.
Fans of the iconic Telsa can now see when it passes Earth, Mars and Venus and get a real time statistic on how fast the car is moving and how far away it is from Earth.
According to the website, the Tesla is currently “2,275,109 miles (3,661,434 kilometres) from Earth, moving away from Earth at a speed of 6,734 miles per hour (10,838 kilometres per hour)”.
