Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde: I don’t care much for Chelsea

Barcelona travel to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night (7.45pm) for a tough Champions League clash with Chelsea.

However, Ernesto Valverde has claimed he “does not care much” about the Blues and was focussing all of his efforts this week on Barca’s away clash with Eibar.

The Catalan side ran out 2-0 winners against their La Liga rivals and Valverde was delighted to get the three points after drawing their last two.

“We had to win,” he said after the match.

“Eibar pushed us very hard and were at a very high level, and I attribute our suffering to that.

“They were on an incredible streak of their own so the win has double merit.

“This match was very important for us after two draws in the league.

“I don’t care much about Chelsea, our objective was to win again.

“In Ipurua everybody suffers, nobody wins easy, but Tuesday is another story.”

Andres Iniesta started the game against Eibar and could be given the nod against Chelsea as Philippe Coutinho is cup-tied in Europe.

When quizzed on his decision to play the 33-year-old, Valverde replied: “I thought it was the best thing for the team.”
