Roger Federer: Lindsay Davenport makes Wimbledon and No 1 predictions

Those are the thoughts of three-time Grand Slam champion Lindsay Davenport. Federer is just one match away from usurping Rafael Nadal at the top of the rankings.

The Swiss legend edged out Philipp Kohlschreiber to set up a quarter-final showdown against Robin Haase on Friday (6.30pm).

The 36-year-old has defied all his critics, and after winning the Australian Open last month – his 20th Grand Slam success – he is showing no signs of hanging up his racket just yet.

And tennis pundit Davenport sees Federer claiming his ninth Wimbledon title in July and finishing the year as No 1.

She told Tennis.com: “Roger will win at Wimbledon again and have a good fall and I can’t see anybody passing him.”

Davenport also doesn’t see anybody stopping Federer anytime soon.

She added: “I underestimated Roger last year after he won Aus Open.

“I thought that was his moment of glory. I just don’t see it happening where he’s not successful.

“He’s so smart at managing his schedule – so happy playing now and so confident.

“He has the ability to play at such a high level, but also have a great maturity and great outlook.

“He knows exactly where he wants to play this year, where he plays well and what makes sense for his family. “He puts a lot of thought into a lot of small decisions.”
