The suspected gunman has been named as Nikolas Cruz, a 19-year-old former student of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. He is currently under arrest and held in custody.
Cruz is suspected of gunning down at least 17 people in a massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School whicht has now become one of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in American history.
A troubled former student who loved guns and was expelled for unspecified disciplinary reasons, police and former classmates said.
Cruz, who had been expelled from the school for reasons that have not been made public, was found with multiple ammunition magazines and one AR-15-style rifle.
The sheriff says the gunman was armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle. And US Senator Bill Nelson said the Florida school shooter “wore a gas mask and [had] smoke grenades”.
