Winter Olympics 2018: WATCH Shaun White halfpipe gold medal run video HERE

White became the first snowboarder in history to win three Olympic titles after he snatched the gold medal from Japan’s Ayumu Hirano with an outstanding final run.

After landing back-to-back 1440s to overtake White by scoring 95.25 in his second run, 19-year-old Hirano thought the gold was his.

Unfortunately for the youngster, White stole his thunder in spectacular style responding with a sensational final run scoring 97.75.

The American dropped to his knees when the score was announced, before celebrating wildly in front of the ecstatic crowd at the venue.

“I knew I had it in me to do it,” said White. “It’s my third gold and it means the world to me to come back from Sochi and find the love and passion for the sport and be able to deliver again.

“I’m standing at the top and I watch Ayumu beat my score and I was pretty frustrated.

“I was hoping that first run would skate through and I could do a victory lap.

“I looked down the mountain and said to myself, ‘you know you’ve got this, it’s what you’ve done your whole life, stay with the moment and you will win the Olympics’.

“I dropped in and I let all those cares and worries go away.”

White’s gold came just months after he overcame two heavy crashes in training.

The 31-year-old suffered a should injury just a month before he needed 62 stitches to his face after he crashed in New Zealand back in October.
