SnapChat update WARNING: Do NOT try to revert to the old version of SnapChat, expert warns

SnapChat users should not try to , security experts have cautioned.

The hugely-successful chat app recently redesigned its Stories page, which was used to showcase photos and videos from friends, as well as content from professional publishers.

Following the dramatic redesign, SnapChat combines Stories and private messages into a single feed, which is accessed by swiping from right-to-left across the camera viewfinder.

Users are not happy with the new look, with h.

One user tweeted: “For the love of god remove the new update. Didn’t even want it but somehow me and my friends got it anyways.

“Don’t wanna see strangers stories, I use it to interact with IRL friends not the entire planet.

“The new story design is dumb, makes no sense.”

According to data supplied to TechCrunch, 83 per cent of App Store reviews (1,941) for the new update are negative with one or two stars.

Although, it appears to be possible to revert back to the old design – security experts have cautioned strongly against the practice.

McAfee Chief Scientist Raj Samani said: “While the changes to Snapchat’s user interface haven’t gone down too well, users need to be aware that any app updates are also likely to contain vital security updates in addition to changes to the look and feel.

“In line with advice from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), we recommend people enable automatic updates.

“This helps to protect devices from criminals looking to use weaknesses in software and apps to attack your devices and steal your identity.”

Those who have reverted to a previous version of SnapChat should head to the App Store or Google Play Store on their iPhone or Android phone respectively to get the updated app.

The feature, which lets users view publicly-shared content pinpointed on a map in real-time, launched back in June 2017.

If SnapChat detects a group of your contacts together on the Map, it will surface the option to kick-off a Group Chat.

By default, SnapChat users will not appear on the Snap Map.

However, if your friends have decided to share their location, they will be presented by ActionMojis – a new type of Bitmoji that incorporates users’ location, time of day, or speed of travel to infer the best Actionmoji.

Examples include at the beach, walking through an airport, sitting and listening to music. Actionmoji only updates when the SnapChat is opened.

Following the announcement earlier this week, Snap Map is now available for anyone to see at map.snapchat.com.

Users can click-and-drag to navigate the map, which is populated with local landmarks, eateries, and cafes.

Snap Map uses a heat map-style user interface to highlight the areas of highest activity.

However, users can click almost anywhere to see whether a publicly-shared post was shared from that location.

The map also includes Stories curated by a dedicated team of producers at Snapchat.

The Snap Map can be embedded directly into third-party websites, with public content available to view within the embedded window.
