48: The pressing is a little better from Porto but there’s no obvious sign of the hosts getting back into things.

PORTO 0-2 LIVERPOOL

45: We’re back underway folks. Rio ‘Ferdy’ Ferdinand thinks Liverpool can wrap this up tonight against a lacklustre Porto. Let’s see if they do.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Paddy: Porto will be well aware that Liverpool may need another 12 goals to make this tie safe.

Sandra: As a joint MUFC and Chelsea fan I wish we had signed Salah instead of Lukaku and Morata. We should offer £100M in the summer for him.

Peter: First class first half from #LFC. So many positives. Robertson shaping up as some player. VVD gives players confidence. Salah one of the best in the world. Klopp tactics don’t give teams time to breathe.

PORTO 0-2 LIVERPOOL

HT: Too easy. This is most certainly Liverpool’s to lose. They haven’t been at their brilliant best, but they didn’t really need to be. Crowd very agitated.

45: Cristiano Ronaldo has levelled things up on the stroke of half-time. The former Manchester United star scored his 4millionth goal from the penalty spot.

42: Porto’s best chance of the game goes begging. Soares and Brahimi change passes before the former strikes wide. Replays show Van Dijk got a crucial touch on it.

40: That would have been brilliant. Liverpool carve Porto wide open at the back and Firmino twists and turns before seeing a shot blocked.

37: I should keep you updated with what’s going on in Spain. PSG are 1-0 up against Real Madrid thanks to Adrien Rabiot. Keep an eye out for the goal because Neymar’s delicious back-heel set it all up.

35: This is a walk in the park for Liverpool. For a side with such a formidable record, Porto haven’t really offered anything to concern Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Porto 0-2 Liverpool (Mane, Salah), Real Madrid 0-0 PSG: Express Sport brings you the latest Champions League scores and action

32: Mohamed Salah becomes only the 13th Liverpool player to score 30 goals in a season. It’s mid-February…

PORTO 0-2 LIVERPOOL – SALAH

30: Boom! Liverpool have doubled their lead and it’s that man – Sadio Mane.

James Milner’s thunderbolt rebounds off the woodwork, and the king of Egypt collects, rounds the goalkeeper and tucks it away.

Can afford to stick the reserves out in the return fixture at this rate…

PORTO 0-1 LIVERPOOL – MANE

24: The Reds draw first blood!

Porto stopper Jose Sa, who almost made that costly error a few moments ago, is at fault.

Sadio Mane’s hopeful strike from 12-yards sneaks underneath the goalkeeper, who completely misjudged it and smashed the ground in frustration.

20: Has to do better. Porto goalkeeper Jose Sa has a nightmare with a shanked clearance that falls to Salah. The Egyptian looks for Firmino in the middle but there’s not enough on the pass and Porto clear.

17: I’m going to blame the terrible conditions for a few misplaced passes. Both sides are going for it but it’s just lacking the quality in the final third. Salah’s barely touched the ball.

14: Robertson has a pop from distance but he’s always leaning back and fires over the bar.

13: Nearly the breakthrough! Dejan Lovren makes a goal-saving challenge to deflect Otavio’s shot over the bar. Positive start from the hosts.

7: Liverpool are bossing the possession statistics. They are playing it from left to right looking to find a weakness in this compact Porto unit. Haven’t found one yet.

3: Interesting start. It doesn’t look like Porto will press Liverpool like they normally do in the Portuguese league.

The hosts win the first corner of the evening. Alex Telles, the left-back with 17 assists this season, delivers but Lovren nods clear.

PORTO 0-0 LIVERPOOL

1: And we’re off! Liverpool are wearing their glorious orange kit to light up the Estadio do Dragao. It’s blinding…

19:43: What an horrible night in Porto. Grey, dank and wet. Liverpool should feel right at home…

MORE FROM STEVIE…

19:38: “I think Liverpool would benefit from a monster of a centre-midfielder, a holder. A Wanyama-type player who does sit in and is disciplined, and he would give more protection to the back four.”

You heard him, lads. Get Victor on the blower.

KEEP GOING!

19:35: Jurgen Klopp’s side topped their Champions League group scoring 23 goals, a record for an English club and a total surpassed only by Paris St Germain (25), also this season.

Nineteen of those goals came from Roberto Firmino (six), Mo Salah (five), Coutinho (five) and Sadio Mane. In total (including the two-legged Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim) the Reds have found the net 29 times this season.

Their record for the competition is 34 in 2007/08 from 14 games. The Reds have scored in each of the last 10 European fixtures, three short of the club record of 13 set between March 1977 and September 1978 (11 European Cup and 2 Super Cup).

They have also scored at least twice in 11 of the last 12 games in all competitions. Salah is one goal away from becoming only the 13th different Reds player to score 30 goals in a season.

DARE TO DREAM? NOPE…

19:30: Difficult to read Porto manager Sergio Conceicao. See what you think.

“I admit I don’t dream much, but I always hope to score goals and not concede. In a round like this, not conceding goals is also very important.

“That’s what any coach wants, but I’m not much of a dreamer. Still, dreaming is important and we have to go after our dreams, but we have to be pragmatic about what we want and have to do.”

So, you DO dream?

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Tina: I’m going for a 3-1 victory tonight against Porto. Mohamed Salah with a brace and Roberto Firmino with the goals!

John: Liverpool should really have the tie sewn up tonight, Porto are a very average side, Liverpool will cruise through 8-0 on agg, 0-4 tonight.

Poughl: Thank God Moreno is back, right guys?… Guys

CAN OFF?

19:20: Has Steven Gerrard dropped the ball? Looks like it.

The Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has let slip tonight that Emre Can will be leaving the club in the summer.

Questioned whether Henderson would get in the Liverpool team when Naby Keita arrives from RB Leipzig in the summer, Gerrard said: “Well you’ll have to wait and see what happens because Emre Can’s leaving, obviously Keita’s coming in.”

AVOID KO BLOW…

19:15: Liverpool are playing in the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time since 2008/09, when they went out to Chelsea in the last-eight.

Their results in the group stage were good, winning three and drawing three, but they head into this phase without Philippe Coutinho, who contributed five goals including a hat-trick against Spartak Moscow, after his January sale to Barcelona.

However, Porto have never beaten the Reds in four competitive meetings.

FORMIDABLE PORTO

19:05: Excluding a penalty shoot-out defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the equivalent of the Portuguese League Cup Porto have not lost in 30 domestic matches.

Their two other losses in 36 games this season have come in the Champions League. They have won 13 of their last 15 games in all competitions.

At home this season they have lost one of 19 (to Besiktas in CL), scoring 54 times and are unbeaten in the last 15 at the Estadio do Dragao.

They have conceded just one goal in their last six games in league and cup. However, key defender Ivan Marcano is an injury doubt having not featured since January 26 while regular partner Felipe is suspended.

No top scorer Vincent Aboubakar either tonight.

KARIUS vs MIGNOLET

18:55: Shaun Goater doesn’t really care which goalkeeper Jurgen Klopp selects, he just wants the German to pick one and stick with it!

The pair have both received criticism for their performances from fans and pundits but Goater does not think they have been helped by being rotated so often.

“Both keepers are thinking ‘am I No 1?’ I think if there is a definitive ‘I’m No 1, I play Champions League and I play Premier League’ then I think the situation would be resolved and you would get the performances,” Goater said.

Karius gets the nod this evening. Goater will be pleased…

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Calvin: It’s been 9 long years since we last reached the knock out stages of the Champions League, hopefully never have to wait that long again. Seriously buzzing for this game tonight!

Harry: If Dejan Lovren scores and keeps a clean sheet tonight I’ll dedicate my account to him for a month.

Charlotte: Good strong team that! I thought Matip looked dodgy on Sunday so a good shout to give Lovren a shot! Karius was class Sunday and deserves to be number 1.

TEAM NEWS – LIVERPOOL

18:45: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp makes three changes from the side who beat Southampton 2-0 at the weekend.

Jordan Henderson and James Milner replace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Emre Can, who drop to the bench.

There’s also a change in defence as Dejan Lovren comes in for Joel Matip. Not sure why you would change a new partnership that just kept a clean sheet, but there you go.

PORTO vs LIVERPOOL

18:40: Here are tonight’s line-ups folks. Looks like three changes. Dejan Lovren returns ahead of Joel Matip. Oh, and Alberto Moreno is back on the bench. Just in time…

Porto XI: Jose Sa, Ricardo, Reyes, Marcano, Alex Telles, Herrera, Sergio Oliveira, Otavio, Brahimi, Marega.

Subs: Casillas, Maxi Pereira, Osorio, Oliver, Corona, Waris, Goncalo Paciencia.

Liverpool XI: Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson, Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Mignolet, Gomez, Moreno, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Ings, Matip.

GOOD EVENING

18:30: Someone pass the Lemsip…

My throat still hurts from screeching the Champions League theme at the top of my lungs yesterday.

So I’ll be taking a night off from shattering my colleagues’ eardrums to bring you all the latest as Liverpool look to topple Porto at the Estadio do Dragao.

Yes, Estadio do Dragao translates to Dragon Stadium in English. Grrrrr.

Anyway, Jurgen Klopp’s side are playing in the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time since 2008/09.

And will hope to come away with a results against a side who’ve never beaten them in four competitive meetings.

Let’s have some team news…

PORTO vs LIVERPOOL – TEAM NEWS

Midfielder Emre Can is suspended for Liverpool’s Champions League last-16 first leg tie in Porto.

Defender Joe Gomez has travelled with the squad after missing the last two matches with a knee injury while record signing Virgil van Dijk is set for his first appearance in the competition for the club he joined in January.

Loris Karius keeps his place with manager Jurgen Klopp abandoning his group stage policy of rotating his goalkeepers from Premier League to European games.

Provisional squad: Karius, Gomez, Van Dijk, Lovren, Moreno, Henderson, Milner, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane, Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Robertson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Ings, Solanke.
