Manchester United news: Real Madrid favourites to sign Marcus Rashford

The arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal has raised doubts about Rashford’s future at Old Trafford while Anthony Martial’s return to form has further limited his opportunities.

The 20-year-old has been used sparingly by Jose Mourinho in recent weeks, failing to start a Premier League game since the goalless draw at home to Southampton on December 30.

A move away from Old Trafford seems unthinkable but BetStars are offering odds of 6/1 that Real Madrid snap up Rashford.

BetStars director of trading Ian Marmion said: “For the last few months all the talk has been about Real Madrid’s pursuit of Harry Kane, but it looks like the Spanish giants could have turned their attention to another young English striker.

“Marcus Rashford has grown increasingly frustrated at with his lack of game time this season and amidst growing rumours that the 20-year-old could be looking for a move away from Old Trafford, Real Madrid have emerged as the 6/1 favourites to make Rashford their next Galactico, closely followed by arch-rivals Barcelona at 8/1.

“Tottenham are currently the leading Premier League club in the market at 11/1, followed by London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal who are both priced at 12/1. Manchester City are unsurprisingly priced as 20/1 outsiders to complete a highly controversial move for Rashford, alongside European giants Juventus and Bayern Munich.

“The opportunity to play alongside the likes of Bale and Ronaldo and challenge for both domestic and European trophies could proved too good to resist for Rashford, so this is definitely a transfer story to keep an eye on.”

legend Thierry Henry has indicated that Rashford should consider a move away from United.

“Leave is a strong word,” he said. “Obviously being from there, he wants to play for United but he has to play and it is becoming even more difficult for him since Sanchez has arrived.

“I think at the end of the season, he is maybe going to have a thinking day of, ‘Do I stay’.”

Higginbotham said: “I don’t think he leaves the football club, he’s still had a lot of football this season.

“I would be amazed if he left the football club.

“He’s at a great club to progress from the players that are around him.

“I don’t think there’s a necessity or a need for it. He’ll get a large amount of games so I can’t really see it.”
