Russian passenger jet crash: Everything we know about plane crash outside Moscow

The An-148 Saratov Airlines flight went off radar shortly after take-off around 2.24pm local time, sources have said.

Russian news agency TASS has now confirmed that emergency services have discovered the wreckage with no survivors on board.

An official statement form the authorities is yet to be released, but a ministry spokesman told  TASS news agency: “Fragments of the An-148 and several bodies plane have been found near the village of Stepanovskoye.”

Local reports suggest that the plane crashed near Argunovo villages, some 80km just outside of Moscow.

The plane is understood to have had 65 passengers on board alongside six crew members.

Russia’s Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) confirmed that radio contact with the plane was lost several minutes after take off.

TASS said: “The An-148 passenger plane of the Saratov Airlines [flight 730 from Moscow to Orsk] took off from the Domodedovo airport at 14:21 Moscow time. 

“According to preliminary data, there were 65 passengers and six crew members aboard the plane. 

“Radio contact with the plane was lost several minutes after the takeoff and the plane went out of the radars. It happened in Moscow region’s Ramensky district.”

Eyewitnesses to the tragedy said emergency services had to approach the crash site on foot because they were unable to reach the wreckage in their vehicles.

Russia’s Investigative Committee have dispatched forensic teams to the site and Transportation Minister Maxim Sokolov is also believed to be on his way.

One source told Russian media that there were “no survivors” of the crash, 

A source told Russia’s Interfax news agency: “The airplane reportedly crashed outside Argunovo village in the Moscow region.

“The crew and passengers had no chance.”

Within two minutes of climbing into the sky the plane began to lose altitude according to the FlightRadar24 tracker.
