Neymar: PSG made promise to Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo before Barcelona transfer

PSG stunned the footballing world when they signed Neymar from Barcelona in a world record £200million transfer deal back in August.

Many expected the Ligue 1 giants to focus their efforts on signing Ronaldo who, it was reported, was keen to leave Real Madrid for a new challenge elsewhere.

However, PSG instead sensationally lured Neymar away from Barcelona, with the 26-year-old moving to the Parc des Princes to escape the shadow of Lionel Messi.

But the Daily Mail say Ronaldo could easily be strutting his stuff in Paris.

It is said the 33-year-old has a close relationship with PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Al-Khelaifi supposedly told Ronaldo he wanted him at the club and, with Ronaldo seeking a bumper pay rise, the former Manchester United star was willing to move.

However, the PSG chief ultimately went back on his word.

The Daily Mail say Ronaldo was overlooked in favour of Neymar who, despite his lofty price tag, is exceeding expectations over in France.

The former Santos star has hit 28 goals from 27 games for his new club, driving them towards the Ligue 1 title.

Meanwhile, Barcelona talisman Messi has claimed his side are better without Neymar in their ranks.

“Without Neymar we are more balanced. His departure led to a change in the way we play,” he said.

“We have lost a lot of our offensive potential but we have improved in defence.

“We have more balance and this allows us to be more solid.”
