Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang chose to join Arsenal from Dortmund because of two other clubs

Arsenal signed Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund last month with the Gabon international moving to the Emirates for a huge £53million.

The striker scored on his debut against Everton a week ago but drew a blank as Arsenal were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham in the north London derby on Saturday.

Despite struggling at Wembley, however, many fans expect Aubameyang to inspire the club to a first league title since 2004.

And Goal say Aubameyang chose to join Arsenal because of decisions made by Real Madrid and AC Milan.

It is an open secret the former Dortmund star wanted to move to the Bernabeu.

Speaking in December 2015, the Gabon star revealed he had promised his grandfather he would play for Los Blancos one day.

“Yes. It’s a promise I made to my grandfather,” he said.

“Right now I feel very good at Dortmund but in the future we’ll see.”

Real, however, chose to keep faith with Karim Benzema – despite allowing Alvaro Morata to join Chelsea.

Goal add AC Milan were another club who passed on the chance to sign Aubameyang.

The 28-year-old started his career at the San Siro and has never hid his desire to make an emotional return.

But their loss is now Arsenal’s gain with Aubameyang expected to be their main man.

The striker will have a chance to bounce back from his Tottenham troubles when the Gunners face Manchester City in the EFL Cup final on February 25.
