Will Meghan Markle wear white for her wedding?

Why do we wear white on weddings? The classic white wedding dress began to become synonymous with nuptials at the beginning of the 19th century.

Prior to this brides would be dressed in clothes that displayed their wealth, meaning dark dyes – which were expensive at the time – and velvet.

White is thought to represent purity and virginity.

Historic royal white wedding gowns notably include Mary, Queen of Scots, who wore a white wedding gown in 1559 when she married her first husband, Francis Dauphin of France, as it was her favourite colour.

Both the Queen and Kate Middleton eschewed pure white on their wedding days.

The Queen opted for ivory silk, decorated with crystals and 10,000 seed pearls.

Kate Middleton wore a mix of white hues, in her typical fashion forward style.

She wore an ivory satin bodice, while the skirt included white satin gazar.

It is likely that Meghan will opt for a shade of white in one sense or another, as it is such a popular wedding colour.

It is thought Meghan Markle’s wedding dress cold be made by Erdem, Roland Mouret or Mischka Badgley, who have all experimented with blush wedding dresses.
