Fortnite Valentines update: Free PS4 and Xbox One release REVEALED ahead of servers launch

A new Battle Royale patch is going live today for PS4, Xbox One and PC players.

The Fortnite Valentine’s update includes a host of new skins, a new silent weapon as well as a fresh list of bugfixes.

Developers Epic Games have confirmed that they will be deploying the new patch today on all platforms.

This will start at around 9:50, GMT, and will require Fortnite servers to go offline for maintenance.

We’re not sure yet how long the outage will last but we do know that servers will start going offline at around 9:25am, GMT.

As usual, the new Fortnite update will need to be downloaded and doesn’t yet have a size for PS4, Xbox One, or PC.

Epic Games say that this is quite a small patch compared to recent ones, however, it does contain some interesting stuff.

FORTNITE SKINS AND NEW WEAPON

As confirmed by the game’s support team, fans we’ll soon have access to new Fortnite Valentine’s loot.

This includes items like the Crossbow, which will add a sneaky new side to those tense stakeouts with mystery bush-dwellers.

As well as the new weapon, Valentine’s Day skins are also being added, including a strange carebear design and Cupid outfit.

“Valentine’s day is coming and Fortnite is getting in the spirit. Feeling lovey-dovey? Then grab yourself Valentine’s Day themed skins in Battle Royale,” Epic Games confirms.

“Gunpowder, not your thing? The new Crossbow allows you to hunt your prey the old-fashioned way. Eliminate your targets with stealth and finesse with this new addition.

“Need more love? For our Save the World fans, our new Valentines themed quest starts next week!

“This is a light week for patch notes, but don’t worry, we have plenty more to bring you in the coming weeks!”

For those wanting to know more about the Crossbow, here’s the latest information from the official Fortnite patch notes:

The Crossbow fires Arrows, which are an unlimited ammo type, is found from floor loot and treasure chests and comes in both Rare and Epic variants.

Another big change coming with this latest Fortnite update is that The Shooting Test #1 Limited-Time Mode is being switched to Solo only.

Here’s more on those backgrounds changes and what else to expect from today’s Fortnite release:

  • Known Issue: The Shooting Test does not save progression for stats or challenges.
  • Shotgun headshot damage increased to 200% (was 150%).
  • Scoped Assault Rifle is now 100% accurate when zoomed in.
  • Scoped Assault Rifle no longer has damage fall-off.

Bug Fixes

  • Players will no longer slide off rooftops.
  • Fix for Item Shop panels disappearing after completing a V-buck purchase through the Store Tab.
  • Fix for collision inconsistencies in certain basement corners.
  • Fixed a hole in the terrain south of Retail Row.

SAVE THE WORLD

For those who play the original Fortnite Save the World mode, Epic have done much to dispel rumours they might be closing down production.

As proof that thing are still rolling out, Save The World players will be getting a special Valentine’s Day themed quest, entitled A Love Story.

They have also been provided a long list of new patches, which will be hitting the game in the coming weeks.

With the company’s other title Paragon closing down shop this year, Epic recently confirmed that they would not be doing the same with Save the World.

“You may have read of our recent decision to stop development on Paragon,” a new Epic statement reads.

“We want to assure you this is not the case for the Fortnite Save the World campaign.

“Rather, this decision allows us to build more features and bring you more content at a faster pace.”

Fortnite will be free-to-play at some point in 2018, meaning that it progressing will make a lot of sense to Epic, moving forward.
