Did Shaun White qualify for the Winter Olympics 2018?
Yes – and in some style. White booked his place in Pyeongchang after pulling off a perfect 100-point score during qualifying at the US Grand Prix earlier this month.
Sitting in ninth place, White left it until his last halfpipe run to blow the judges away and earn the second perfect score of his career.
The 31-year-old successfully landed a frontside double cork 1440, cab double cork 1080, frontside 540, double McTwist 1260 and frontside double cork 1260.
At the end of last year, White’s team feared he would miss the 2018 Games, after a horrific crash left him with bruised lungs and needing 62 stitches.
He posted on social media after the injury in October to assure fans he would “be back”.
He said: “I’ve always lived my life by pushing the limits. Winning is great, but it’s the tough times that truly define you.
“I took a slam while training the other day, but don’t worry I’ll be back soon and better than ever!”
White has been a staple of the United States’ Olympic team since winning halfpipe titles at the 2006 Torino Olympics and starred in the team’s Super Bowl commercial last night.

White has also expressed an interest in competing for the US when skateboarding makes its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020.
