Clarke is swapping the feisty and independent Daenarys Targaryen for the feisty and independent Kira.
Early reports from the set and a leaked toy image had shown that Kira is expected to be in the thick of the action, most likely on Han’s home plane of Corellia. She will clearly be more than match for the young and unformed Han, since the toy showed KiRa is the one behind the wheel of a local speeder, alongside a Corellian hound.
However the trailer showed her in a far more serious and emotional moment, although there is still even more to come tomorrow when the main trailer is revealed on US TV.
Kira is one of three main female characters, all of whom have been shrouded in mystery.
However, actor Michael K Williams, who was cut from the cast when he was unable to return for vital reshoots, told Vanity Fair this is a strong connection between Kira and Rey.
Fans quickly noted that Kira was the working name for Rey’s character in the original drafts for the Force Awakens and soon started suggesting that Kira coud well be Rey’s mother. This would explain how Han felt so connected to Rey so quickly, if she reminded him of someone so important from his past.

Of course, this will also reignite the theories that Han, himself, is also Rey’s father which would help explain the powerful bond between Rey and Kylo Ren, even without Snoke’s meddling.
Clarke is joined in the new movie by Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge who long ago was rumoured to be playing an android, in the vein of C-3PO. Nothing at all was known about Thandie Newton’s role, although she is shown in the teaser as an exotic and beautiful dancer.
